I like to be a loyal customer, giving at least the majority of my business to one company. Loyalty, I believe, breeds loyalty. For that reason I've done my ordering through Tobacco Direct for as long as I can remember, and have defended them on this board.

It seems that I need a new supplier. They made an error in a product in my most recent order. Though the mistake was not a really big issue, it has become one due to their response. Or should I say lack thereof. In the almost 4 weeks since I received the order I have emailed them three times and called twice (only able to leave messages because nobody answers). To date there has been nothing but silence from Tobacco Direct. I feel that a mountain is being made of a molehill, but I am hesitant to do business with a company that ignores me as a customer, regardless of the size of the problem.

With whom do you order? I have just a few requirements – I want to be able to order G L Pease blends, McClelland bulks and tinned blends, and to be treated as a valued customer. I'll appreciate any and all feedback on this.

I do my ordering from Tobacco Direct (no problems so far), and Pipes & Pleasures in Ohio. I consider both very good at prices with Pipes & Pleasures easier to contact over the phone. You can check out Pipes & Pleasures at http://www.pipesandpleasures.com

They offer good prices and excellent service, and it's a toll-free phone call outside Ohio.

I have experienced the phone problem with Tobacco Direct and believe it's because only Linda answers the phone. I guess if she isn't there, or they went to a pipe show, then there's just no one to take the calls. Anyway, check out Pipes & Pleasures and see what you think of their prices. I smoke Penzance and Margate which are both the same price and at Pipes & Pleasures the difference is less than ten cents compared to Tobacco Direct for an eight ounce bag.

I too have had problems with Tobacco Direct and now refuse to deal with them even though I have found that their prices are best overall. I have had good luck finding what I need for only a few dollars more at Knoxville Cigar Co., Synjeco's, Payless Pipes and Tobacco Supermarket.
With the extra tax from living in Ohio, Pipes & Pleasures is a little expensive for me.

Synjeco is pretty good - where I purchase my baccy (but their pipe prices are a little steep).

So too is Dan Pipe - where I purchase most of my pipes.

Linda at Tobacco Direct has been very ill.
She was even hospitalized for a period.
She is still seeing a specialist and as far as
I know still having problems.

The person she hired to handles thing apparently
has not been doing such a great job.

I'm sure thing will get back to normal.

Just out of idle curiosity, has anyone heard news of Tobaccodirect? About three weeks ago I tried to place an order and their system didn't function. No one answers the phone or answers e-mail. As far as I am concerned the firm is defunct! I've gotten some fine tobacco from Bufflehead and Fincks Cigar. Am still looking for a good source for Penzance outside of Ohio. Too bad about TD, but to quote an old time merchant,
"you can't sell from an empty wagon."

I also smoke Penzance. You can find an excellent price for Penzance at http://www.knoxcigar.com when they have it. Unfortunately, they do not get in as much as say Pipes and Pleasures. However, when they do have it in stock, the price is great. Another source to check is http://www.vegassmokes.com The price there is very good when a sale is on. I just checked and there is a sale on right now - better hurry if you're interested. The 8 ounce bulk is just $18 dollars plus shipping.

Here is another excellent source for Penzance:

http://www.tobaccomkt.com

The price there is under $22 dollars for the 8 ounce bulk package - plus shipping.

Mr. Schwartz: Thank you for the tip---I just ordered two 8oz. packs from Vegas Smokes. Their $18/8oz. is still in effect. That is a $3.50 savings over TD, assuming they even had it in stock, which they haven't for at least three months. Thanks again, and I'll be thinking of you when I light up with my next pack of Penzance.

www.cupojoes.com is very good, too. Good selection, good prices. Eric has always been very helpful to me, whether I'm buying or just pestering him with questions.

The best prices for tobacco are at J&R Cigar.
