Well, I picked up my tin and tried it. Great smoke! A two match bowl, counting the charring light, and burned amazingly well. Just pretty ashes all the way down.

There are flavors in there I can't figure out what they are? Dates? Plums? What's in it? The package offers no hints.... Enlighten me...

Anyhow, I recommend if you want to try this blend, use either a new pipe or a just cleaned one to savor it completely.

The paper cover inside the tin says: "The combination of high grade Virginia and Perique tobaccos selected with scrupulous care and blended by experts provides fine, cool smoking enjoyment."

And truer words were never spoken!

The plummy taste is due to the Perique.

If you like this one (which I very much do), give Stockkebye's Bullseye Flake a try. It comes in the same "coin" form as Escudo (which is Portugese for coin). It rubs out very even and fine, smokes smooth, a bit milder than AC Peterson's Escudo and can be purchased in bulk.

Lisa:

If you really liked Escudo, you might also want to try Three Nuns, which is also a spun cut. Three Nuns, like Escudo, is a venerable VA/Perique blend; unlike Escudo, though, it's no longer distributed in the States. It can be ordered through Synjeco, a Swiss company that stocks some tobaccos we can't otherwise get in the U.S.: www.synjeco.ch. The downside: Add in shipping costs and it gets expensive.

escudo is indeed a fine tobacco. My stash is about 4 years old now but is down to only a few tins as i have gifted most of my tins of it over time. Just tried a bowl this weekend again. Yummy.
