I have been enjoying the pipe for over a year now. I have mostly stuck with aromatics. I have a few bulk english style blends, but they are so different than what I am accustom to, I don't smoke them much. I took a trip to my local B&M to try to get some Christmas Cheer to try, but they were out. I decided to try Royal Cajun Ebony since it was comprised mostly of Virginas. Has anybody else tried this? Is it typical of a Virgina blend? I have only tried it once, but I think I like it. It has much more taste than any of the aromatics, but is still slightly sweet. The smokey BBQ flavor was great. Is there any other Virginas that I should try, and is this in general what is to be expected. From my findings this seems to be a new blend and looks like it might be a blend that is Virgina but not typical of that style. |

I've really been enjoying CC 2006 the past month or so, and find it to be a very refined Virginia with just a touch of sweetness. Just this weekend I cracked the top on a tin of Blackwoods Flake to compare since CC'06 was my first try at straight VA's, previously VaPers were the closest I got. The Blackwoods Flake is much more intense than the CC'06, much sweeter and flavorful from the dark stoved tobacco. The CC'06 is very refined, takes a good deal of concentration to get the most out of it, the flavors are very subtle and full of more fruity notes. Both are excellent and I think are considered good examples of VA's at their best. You might also want to try a Va-Perique blend, the one I am most familiar with is McClelland bulk #2015 which has excellent reviews. I don't always find the peppery nature of the Perique to be welcome, but it is a pleasant change of pace when I am in the mood especially if I have been smoking English blends a lot. Since trying CC'06 I have been on a VA kick, haven't smoked any English this month. That will change over the holidays as I have a new English-only pipe that needs to get broken in. |

This blend is its own thing. I am on the fence with it. It seems to smoke much hotter and wetter than i care for. But i do enjoy the flavor. G.L. Pease makes "fillmore" that is a virgin based blend with a slight sweatness i enjoy. I'll be honest my tastes lean to classic Balkins and english blends. |

Thanks for the input. I was assuming the Royal Cajun was a blend of it own kind. I still seem to enjoy the change on occasion. Michael, I took your advice and ordered Some CC'06 and McClelland Bulk #2015, As well as a few other blends that sounded interesting from smokingpipes.com Shipment is due in on the 4th, so I am hoping to find a new path in my adventures. |
