Have any of you tried this tobacco, smoked by Shelby Foote? If so, what is it like and did you like it?

I've never tried it, but to save others from trudging through Google, here is the link to blog post on Memphis Tobacco Bowl's site about this blend:
http://blog.memphistobacco.com/archives/2005/06/mr_foote.html

As to the blend itself, the post states:
"His [Shelby Foote's] tobacco was a blend of cube cut burley, latakia and perique with a mild aromatic mixed in. He would buy the components and blend them himself. Eventually I blended them, named it Shiloh, and have been selling it ever since. It is a pleasant smoke."

Warwick- Thank you. I had read the information on the Tobacco Bowl's site previous to my post. As you know, the description on a tin, or by the tobacconist, often fails to be what we actually experience. I also checked tobaccoreviews.com, but found no posts there. I am hoping to get a bit of feedback from those who might have actually smoked this blend.

Bill,

I have smoked numerous bowls of this blend. It is an English blend with a little Edward G Robinson Pipe Mixture thrown in.

So, to get more to your question, I love how it smokes. It is not a mild or even a heavy English..more middle of the road with a sweet, refreshing aroma and taste. It is a tad spicey, due to the perique. Smokes very cool and dry all the way down, leaving a nice gray ash. I can see why Shelby enjoyed this blend as you can simply light it and enjoy while focussing on other tasks (such as he did with his writings).

Of course you can mail order this from The Memphis Tobacco Bowl. If possible, I would suggest that you actually stop by the shop. You can just feel the history of all the famous people that have been in there. Lots of autographed pictures of celebraties and dignitaries. It has the nostalgic feel of an old tobacconist shop with tons of pipes and tobaccos to choose from.
