Have returned to full time pipe smoking after dropping it except for occasional indulgences, giving up ciggies after 45 years. Back in 70's used to smoke something by Van Rossem tobaccos, called Schipper's tabak. It was a string cut, ( shag?). had a picture of an old sailor in sou'wester on it. Had a piney taste. came out of holland I think. Used to have coupons in it for Delftware. ( Blue and white ceramic). Had a ceramic calabash, ashtray and matching humidor I recieved for sending in 'cuppins'. had a picture of a man in stocks, with fat 16th century dutchman giving a puff on his pipe. ( I think troost still uses this logo, but Troost does not make anything resembling 'schippers' ( Sailor's in dutch I think) Has anyone seen this brand lately? |

Hello Ross, The website of German pipe smokers newsgroup d.a.f.t includes a review of the tobacco in question. The review is from 2005, so the tobacco should still be around. The reviewer mentions that he bought the blend in Belgium. The review is here (in German): http://www.daft.de/tabak/review.php?sel=994&ref=tabak Best wishes Markus |

Markus is right. We -in Holland- can still buy this tobacco. It is really an old blend. Best wishes Gerrit Jan |
