Hey- I've bought a light English blend and an aromatic in the time that I've started pipe smoking, which isn't that long. The aromatic appeared to be quite moist, whereas the English seemed a bit dry. I'm really not sure what to look for, so if anyone knows how to manage moisture, that'd be great. |

Moisture is a matter of opinion and personal preference. This doesn't help, I know. In fact, it makes things worse until you realize that the "choice" is yours. Once YOU figure out how moist or dry YOUR tobacco should be, you will then have a clue how to "manage" the moisture. As far as "how" to manage the moisture, there are a number of things that you can do, but my feeling is that you really are wondering how moist or dry the tobacco should be? I would say, start by smoking tobacco that is moist, and then start drying it out a bit at a time until you find out where it smokes the best for you. Don't force it down, if it burns to hot or won't stay lit move on. These are things to look for - stays lit within reason doesn't gurgle too much doesn't bite your tongue flavor comes through packs in an acceptable manner (not necessarily in that order) I'd say that when you meet the above criteria, you have found it. |
