I have tried on numerous occasions to smoke the original Frog Morton and also Frog Morton Accross the Pond. I love the smell of them (both from the can and burning)and the taste of them, but they are wet, wet, wet. I can't keep them burning. Even if I try to dry them out on a paper towel all day long, it makes no difference. Is is because the blenders feel its necessary to put additives in it to keep them moist? Many of my other favorites (Perfection, Dorisco Mixture, Red Raparee, ect)need only about 30 of air time before they are perfect for smoking. Should I just give up on one of America's great tobacco companies. I sure don't want to. Do their famous flakes resist drying out also? |

I just opened a can of FM this last week and found that it smoked well straight from the newly opened can. After the charring light, I tamped, relit and smoked it almost to the end of the bowl. I found FM a little light for my tastes, but a pleasant smoke nonetheless. |

I know what you mean about thte Frogs and 5115 (Dark English Full.) They actually bother my mouth more when they are burning. The good new is that there is no need to "give up on one of America's geat tobacco companies" just because some of their products have more humectant than their others. |

I agree that Frog Morton is soggy and doesn't dry the way a naturally moist tobacco should. I believe it's loaded with PG. |

Since discovering McClelland I have smoked through 2 cans of the original FM, 1 FMATP, 1 FMOTB, and I think that is it. But in every case I have had no problems with them being too wet. I prefer the "frank" method of packing for my english's, and am smoking them out of a peterson 305, system pipe. I did find that I needed to pack the FM series just a bit looser than I normally would have though. Hope this helps. |

I've had two tins (FM & FMOTT)that started out pretty moist, but between laying some out before a smoke and leaving the lid of the tin for an hour here and there, I had no problem getting them to the moisture level I like. I also have one tin of FMOTB that opened to be dryer than the others, but then it was also aged more... on the other hand I have decided I prefer my english type blends more on the moist side. |

I agree with Harvey - either McClelland has some absolutely incredible processing technique that allows some of their tobaccos to retain a sort of plump moistness for ever and ever, or they are using just a touch of Glycol. Certainly not all McC products are like that. Navy Cavendish, for instance, dries right out, but I've had samples of Frog Morton that in the can (and out) for a VERY long time and the moisture level never changed. |

Last month I had the pleasure of purchasing a 6 year old can of Frog Morton on the Town, and I found that it had the perfect moisture level straight out of the can. The very first bowl smoked straight from top to bottom in my new meerschaum without even so much as a single relight. This is my first experience with a Frog blend, but based on it, I can't say I agree about the Frog being soggy. |

Sandy, leave some of that Frog out on the counter overnight. In the morning, you'll find it's STILL exactly right. That's what frightens me. |

I have a moisture problem with the original FM. I have let it age in a jar for about 6 months and it has finally started to dry out enough for me to smoke without making a wet nasty mess in my pipe. However, it is still a little too moist even if I let it sit out for an hour before packing. |

I just bought my first tin of Frog and after several bowls haven't noticed much wetness. In fact, I would say that it smokes dryer than some other (albeit aeromatic) blends that I have tried. I also notice that it takes and holds a light extremely well, besides being delicious with just the right amount of niccotine! |
