Do you have an all day tobac? I find I can usually only fire up one sometimes two bowls a day, after that my mouth/tounge gets "tired" and I dont seem to enjoy or even taste the baccy anymore. My dailys are anything Sam Gawith including FVF (although very rich) or a McClelland Va/vaper Any suggestions for an all dayer you've had luck with will be greatly appreciated Enjoy yer pipe |

My personal everyday smokes are Prince Albert and Carter Hall. Both are old time burleys. They are not sophisticated, but are very consistent. They are great puffin' bleds that do not require a lot of attenton. They do now wear me out and are easy on the tongue. Ken |

I have been using Fillmore by G.L.Pease as my all day smoke. It is a mild VaPer in a broken flake that is pretty mild and smokes pretty cool. |

1792. You're already a Sam Gawith fan and 1792 never smokes hot for me, even after quite a few bowls in the same pipe all day. Of course you will get your share of vitamin N...... |

B-rad: Well, I'm going to offer a different take: Why not shake things up a bit for your palate and experiment with a variety of tobaccos throughout the day? (I keep six or seven blends going at a time.) I tend to like a fairly flavorful or more complex blend first thing, when I can give it the kind of attention it deserves. For instance, I might start the day with an Oriental-forward blend, such as GLPease's Charing Cross or Presbyterian Mixture. My next pipe (and I'll typically smoke only two or three bowls a day) might then be a fairly full English, such as Pease's Westminster or Esoterica's Margate or Penzance. I might end the day with a Virginia like Rattray's Old Gowrie or Hal o' the Wynd (or even another Oriental-forward blend like Red Rapparee), or a Virginia/burley flake like Best Brown or Bob's Chocolate Flake, or something like Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge (a Virginia flake made by Samuel Gawith, with a bit of latakia and a whisper of rum). I like to give each of my bowlfuls my full attention, so I don't look for innocuous blends or things that can be smoked without any thought. Penzanze is my "go to" blend for daily smoking, but if I had to smoke only a single tobacco throughout the day, I don't think I could name one. Happy smoking, Bob |

For me, there are too many great pipe tobaccos to have one "all-day smoke". I smoke 4-5 pipes a day, but I never get to repeat one blend on the same day. (Occasionally I repeat one blend in meer/briar since they taste completely different, but that's hardly the case). |

Occassionally, I utilize GLPease 'Tribute' as my all day. Especially, if I'm going on a trip somewhere and don't want to bring different blends. But, to be honest I don't get past 3 or 4 bowls in a day on any tobacco. I'm usually putting the pipes down for a few days afterward if I smoke too much. So, I guess I'm saying I haven't found that elusive all day smoke myself....yet. But, I've only tried about 20 different tobaccos so far. |

My all day smoke for some 8 months now is Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic....IMHO, this has to be one of the finest "Drug Store Tobacco's" I have ever smoked....I know my drawers full of High End Baccy's are lonely, but in my almost 20 years of Pipesmoking I have never, and I mean NEVER smoked anything so easy to enjoy AND satisfying as SWR Aromatic! |

Hi Troops. I'm a fairly new member here but switched from hard and heavy cigarettes to pipes back in '73. These days I smoke 8-10 bowls per day simply because I spend a lot of time in this nice chair in front of my computer and HDTV and right next to this ominous collection of pipes and baccy's. Throughout the day I treat myself to some special smokes like 633, silver flake, Annie Kake, FVF, Esoterica Stonehaven, 1792 and Scottish Cake, but my MOST smoked blend is one of my own hybrids which comes out to a pretty cheap price (I figured $2.11 for 50g on the last batch)... it's quick to make and easy to buy: 1 part Stokkebye Natural, 1 part McClelland 610 and 3 parts 1Q. Sounds like it would be too sweet, but it's actually quite satisfying and easy on the tongue and a wife pleaser (if I had one).... email me at ewscott@impakt.net and I'll be glad to send you a sample. |

One could do a lot worse that to choose one (or more) of the old line Drug Store tobacco's for an all day smoke. They have a well earned ,decades old, history of giving good satisfaction to millions of pipe smokers. This post points out one of the "problems" with more complex "tobacconist" tobacco's with that being...."smokers fatigue". |

This concept of having different tobaccos for different times of the day is new to me. I was always advised to find a tabacco which I quite liked and they stick with it. I asume that if you smoke different tabaccos and you go out for the day the logistics don't justify the effort. Anyway, for now I will stick to Dunhill 965 blended with Chas Rattray's Old Gowrie. I can smoke this any time of the day or night |

I start the day with a milder bulk "drugstore" type of tobacco, somewhere on the lines of Carter hall or Prince Albert. As the day progresses I tend to smoke stronger Virginia's like McClelland Blackwoods Flake. |

B-Rad: I smoke Dunhill Early Morning Pipe just about every day, but it's not the only thing I smoke. I don't think I'd be nearly as interested in pipe smoking if I smoked only one blend, all day, day in and day out. I usually have about 6 other tins going at the same time. Generally a couple of straight VAs (rubbed or flake), a couple of other Oriental blends, a burley, and an English blend. I've tried to strike a balance between being a Johnny one note on the one hand, and having 30 opened tins on the other; what I've described is working for me. You enjoy yer pipe, too! |

PS If what you're looking for is something so that you can carry a single tin around with you all day, that will have good flavor but (hopefully) not tire out your tongue, give Astleys No. 55 a try. A rubbed straight VA, but not nearly as rich / concentrated as for instance FVF, Sam's Flake, or a VA/Per. Just an idea. It's impossible to know someone else's tastes and predict their probable reaction to a blend. |

I used to smoke Carter Hall all day long back when I was farming and spending 16 hour days in a tractor or combine. Some days I'd go through a whole pouch, then I started buying it in tubs. These days I never smoke the same tobacco all day, there are too many good ones to choose from. Smokey |

I do smoke Van Rossem's Troost as an all day/everyday tobacco. I used to smoke vierHeerenbaai for years, if I find something I like I stick with it. The tobacco prices over here are not really encouraging to go wild; at almost $8 for 50 grams of plain tobacco I tend to become very carefull. Regards, Paul |

Not so much where, but when. I think the last time I bought Troost was in Atlanta, Georgia, but it was in 1969. I saw somewhere that they do not export it to the US any more. Too bad; it is a nice smoke, as I recall. |

I very seldom smoke the same blend all day, but some of the ones that are good candidates for it are C&D Plantation Evening and Morley's Best, Boswell's Mild English, L.J. Peretti's BPC, D-7485, and D-9575, and Edgeworth Ready Rubbed. Smokey |

Hello together. It is interesting to read that so many user here have more then one open tin. I always have only one tobacco open. Once the tin is gone I go over to the next one. I never have consecutive tins of the same tobacco, but alternate between my favorites and some new tobaccos. And therefore I always have an all day smoke. Just depends on what I have open right now. At the moment it is W.O. Larsen Edition 2008 and will be replaced soon by Stanwell Lotus. Have a good day. Martin |

I was a confirmed Virginia and Plumb Cake man for years. Recently, on a whim, I ordered a sampler from Pipeworks and Wilke and I like Carol's Rumcake. I ordered a pound and I've been smoking it day in and day out for a month now - I just love it. I have tried everything under the sun and it suits my taste perfectly. It has a nice room note and a carmel/rum aftertaste. If you like a yummy taste, good note and zero bite, give it a try. |

Allday mixtures for me will vary depending upon my mood, the weather, and what I smoked the day before! Some days I'll start with good ol' Carter Hall, then move to some MacB Plum Cake, and on to some of Bob's Chocolate Flake. Other days I will stroll out the door with a few different light and sweet aromatics. Today I had some Stokkebye Vanilla Gold and McLelland No.715 Raspberries and Cream in my pocket. Tomorrow might well see me smoking Petersens Irish Oak and some Mac B Dark Twist. I have to keep some variety in there or my palate gets really tired as I end up overworking a blend throughout the day. But if I HAD to smoke only ONE tobaccco repeatedly during the day and could not switch to another, I'd have to pick up my pouch of Carter Hall and be a happy man. |

A REALLY GREAT cavendish blend is Altadis Ascot. Smells just like the old days, and tastes great. Very mild, sweet and can smoke it all day. Another good all day smoke is The Tobacco Center, Blender's Gold Toasted Cavendish. You can buy a 12 oz bag at Walgreen's Or Winn Dixie for about $10 or so. I don't like their other blends at all, but the Toasted Cavendish is pretty good, as long as you dry it out for a few days before smoking. By the way, I am also smoke most of the favorites here: Samuel Gawith tobaccos, Rattray's, Dunhill, etc. I am particularly fond of Bill Bailey's Balkan and Old Ironsides by Dan tobacco. As for me the "go to" 'baccy is MacBarens Original choice. No matter what I do it generally behaves. Probably a bit feeb for most fellas but there it is. No doubt the search for the perfect blend is endless as there are so many palate/mood variables. |

If I have a smoke in the morning it may be an aromatic. Later in the day I may have some Mac Baren's Roll Cake. In the evening I prefer to try an English blend or perhaps some Plum Cake. When I smoke English blends it is usually in a Peterson pipe. Sometimes I feel the need to have some C&D Cross Eyed Cricket and there is a Peterson pipe earmarked for the blend. Most of the pipes I smoke are limited to individual blends. I think it works well for my palate. Hope this helps. |

Since this thread began back in May 2007, my "all day smoke" has changed a number of times. When I posted originally, it was Walnut. Then, for a period of time, it was P&W's #193. Then, by turns, Presbyterian, Commonwealth, Squadron Leader. Lately, I have had a yen for Virginias and Rattray's Hal O' the Wynd has been the regular, with the occasional venture into a jar of FVF. If I can't decide what to smoke I find myself reaching for Mac Baren Vanilla Cream. Don't let the name fool you this is a strong smoke that is a very sophisticated aromatic and if you aren't expecting it it can surprise you. Also Town Topic for a sweeter milder smoke and Westminster for a change of pace. I have about 6 ounces of various berry blends and find myself moving away from them, I think I need to just smoke them up to get rid of them and move on. |

In a drug store type it has been Carter Hall. But my usual all day smoke varies between Boswells Mild English and pipesandcigars Butternut burley. For a change of pace I am smoking Boswell's Sweet Tea. Dan reccomended it and was so right. It has a light sweetness but more of a citrus taste that gives a break between the english and burley. Glad you posted the question there are some that have been mentioned I will try. LOVE THIS FORUM David |

I often have days when I'll smoke only one blend. For me, those all day smokes are latakia blends and then likely FM ATP, Squadron Leader, or Penzance. Yesterday I smoke Penzance exclusively. Four bowls if I recall correctly. The day before it was Squadron Leader. Who knows what it may be today as I've yet to pack the first bowl. |

I enjoy both Carter Hall and SWR aromatic. One day I mixed them together 50/50 and was pleasently surprised. I enjoy them both individually, but I keep going back to the mixture more and more. I also enjoy a custom mixture called "Harvey's Blend" from a local tobacco store. They tell me it's a bulk from Peter Stokkebye or McBaren, but I've never seen it anywhere else or online. I'd smoke it as an all day blend (no bite at all and very flavorful), but at $3 an ounce I'll stick with my CH/SWR mixture. |

Any of the aforementioned Codger Burlies (i.e. Prince Albert, Edgeworth RR, etc.) Old Joe Krantz and lately I've quite enjoyed a 1:1 mix of Edgeworth RR and Five Brothers as an all day smoke. These two tobaccos seem to work very well together. It really is tough to beat any of these old time burlies as an all day smoke. |

I just enjoyed two short smokes of CH in two cobs that I 'mudded' last night. Nice flavorful smoke, tho as you say it's certainly no where near exotic. The 'Jack Benny' side of my personality likes it too! Tom |

PS Luxury Navy Flake is a great all day smoke for me. It's always consistent and good |
