Haven't posted in quite a while...while being absent from the board, I've been smoking the same 6 blends out of the same 10 pipes. Don't get me wrong, I love each pipe and blend dearly, but my palate needs a change. I recently bought a new 1/2 bent on impulse, and grabbed two cobs to try out some new tobaccos. Problem is, I don't know what I want to try! I'm hoping for some suggestions on some tobaccos that considerably depart from the norm...something that has a truly "defining" characteristic. Let me say that I've never been fond of Latakia...I've tried it plenty and even attempted to "force" my palate to like it. No dice. I'm open to any Aromatic, Virginia, Burley, Va/Burley, or VaPer blends out there. Thanks, all! |

After 15 years in pipe smoking, I' ve tried both aromatics and english ones. I finally figured out that there are no "rights" or "wrongs" in choosing tobacco. All are depended on your body chemistry. It is true that some are tongue biting like the beautifully smelling "Skandinavik Mixture" and Captain Black but I cannot reject the aromatics. I have tried Dunhills like "Early Morning" and "965" but for me their smell is disgusting (although they burn fine and do not bite). My favorite ones at the time are Stanwell's "Kir & Apple", W.O. Larsen's "Master's Blend" and Danish Mixture "Mango". I love aromatics and I will continue to try different blends, but I believe the 3 above are the best for me so far: no bites, tasteful and discreet room aroma. I hope I 've helped. |

Give Spilman Mixture a try, I really like it especially in fall, winter, and spring, not quite as good in the summer though. |
