I have a tin of Sherlock Holmes and I cant say that I like it very much. To me its tastes like a bad cigarette with no real tobacco flavor. I really want to try some English blends and Squadron Leader looks like a good bet. My question is is it too similar to Sherlock Holmes? Should I give it a try or look elsewhere?

Squadron Leader is a good bet, and NOTHING like Sherlock Holmes. Holmes is a Virginia/Burley blend with a light topping, almost like Bergamot, that smokes rather bitterly on a bad day.

Squadron Leader is much more an "English" with a good dose of Latakia leaf and a relatively high proportion of orientals. Totally different tobacco style than Sherlock Holmes.

I never smoked Sherlock, but I have Squadron Leader and I as many others like it very much, I think it would be worth a try and then you will know if it's for you.

Hey Steve!
I also bought a tin of Sherlock Holmes awhile back and didn't care for it. I did read on tobaccoreviews though that it gets better after sitting for about 6 months. Mine has been in a desk drawer for about 4 months now so I will let you know in a couple months if this is true. As far as Squadron Leader, I wasn't a fan at first, but my local tobacconist recommended blending some perique in with it. I let him "dress up" my SL and sure enough, it has been a fave of mine ever since!

I tend to agree with most of the other posters here.

Sherlock Holmes - bad

Squadron Leader - good
