Kerry: I really enjoy Dan Tobacco aromatics. Blue Note,Devil's Holiday and Sweet Honeydew. All the condiments added to the tobacco are all natural no chemical or artificial taste. As with most aro's if smoked too aggressively that tend to bite. However they have a great aro taste and room note. Give them a try. Mike |

I have Black Velvet on my try-list.. maybe next month. But I can tell you that their "Founders Reserve/Malthouse" is very nice in my opinion. I like it alot. |

Dan's aro blends are great for aromatics. Devil's Holiday is very good. I dedicate a pipe to it, due to the fact the topping is so distinct and powerful. Blue Note is very mild and has a very "natural" fruit topping. Milonga is quite elegant as well. I usually don't do aromatics but from time to time I do smoke them as change of pace or when I get a sweet tooth and the three listed above are very pleasant in both flavor and room note. I love Dan's stuff because I have yet to encounter the plastic taste found in cheap aro blends. |

so I just purchased a tin of Black Velvet from a local shop. The tin seems to have a little age as the shopkeeper remarked that it's been there a while. I opened it there and was met by the scent of maybe anise.. perhaps a tad "CaptainBlackesque" in initial tin scent. The tobacco seems drier than what I would expect from tinned tobacco. It does not seem to be over flavoured.. it does not come off as more about flavouring than tobacco. This too is my experience with Dan Tobacco's Founders Reserve/Malthouse. So in my initial experience with Black Velvet, one bowl down, there is a creaminess to the taste and feel.. almost like a faint cocoa/vanillabutter (though not chocolatey) and essence of champagne.. perhaps better described as that crisp floral scent of a glass with drying residue of champagne. It is so far a very appealing aromatic to me even as a lover of grassy Va's and VaPer's. |

So after a little time with Black Velvet.. I must say that I really like this one. Also.. I see a review on TobaccoReviews posted by "Phatmax" on 05/04/2009, in this review he(?) tells of being put off by the pouch aroma at first, believing it was going to be a bad experience.. and then liking it. Well this is my experience too. I at first (as stated above) thought the tin aroma to have a CaptainBlack sense behind the flavour.. however after opening the tin a couple of times, I found that that quickly disappeared. I too initially thought I may have wasted some money but was in fact pleasantly rewarded. |

And more.. still enjoying the Black Velvet. However I have also been smoking a blend called "London Blend".. a 100gm cardboard canister of very nice tobacco. Very latakia. I thought to post it here as I find that 4noggins has this one listed under their DAN tobacco offerings.. Pipes&Cigars lists it under CAO. However, TIMMS Pfeifen und Tabakhaus is the source printed on my canister. Either way, it is a very enjoyable latakia blend. |
