Just made an average calculation of how much tobacco i had and how long will it last, just to say 3 grams of tobacco per a bowl, i only smoke like 5 bowls per week so counting all my tins of tobacco i have like 880 grams, it should be enough for 3.7 years and some times i'm still looking for more stuff. Wonder how much you guy's cellar. Here's the inventory: A & C Peterson Escudo Navy Deluxe Virginia - Perique - 3 Captain Black White Black Cavendish (Aromatic) - 1 Erinmore Flake Virginia - Burley (Aromatic) - 1 Esoterica Penzance Virginia - Latakia - 7 G.L. Peace Westminster Virginia - Latakia - 1 Mc Baren Navy Flake Virginia - Cavendish - Burley - 1 McClelland Blackwoods Flake Virginia - 1 McClelland Frog Morton Virginia - Latakia - 1 McClelland Dark Star Virginia - 1 Price Albert Prince Albert Burley - 1 Rattray Hal O' Wynd Virginia - 1 Rattray Marlin Flake Virginia - 1 Rattray Red Rapparee Virginia - Oriental - - 1 Rattray Old Gowrie Virginia - 1 Rattray Dark Fragrant Virginia - Perique - 1 Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader Virginia - Latakia - Turkish - 1 Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake Virginia - 6 Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake Virginia - 1 |

I am wondering at your restraint. I respectfully submit that you must never run out of matches! I hope your pipes are all large bowled. I am curious how one accumulates so much tobacco and smokes so few bowls. The balance of tobacco to burning seems a bit off and it intrigues me. How many pipes do you own? If you rotate tobacco as I do pipes you only get to taste your trove fully every 3 1/2 weeks or even a month if you do it proportional to your stockpile. Is it only certain times of the day or activities that you enjoy smoking the gives you such a small amount of 'burn time'? -- jack |

I'm too lazy to figure this out. Given that I smoke about nine large bowls per day (Peterson XL90, for example), how many pounds do I need to see me through ten years? |

I agree with John. I have about 55 lbs of bulk tobaccos in about 40 different flavors/styles. I think I will be willing what ever I never get to smoke to my son along with my pipes when that day comes. |

Harvey, I'd recommend that you start out with 125 pounds. I smoke 3 to 4 bowls a day, most of my pipes are in the big bowl range Sav "hercs" & free hands. the 44 pounds in my cellar just put me over the 10 yr. mark |

--"Harvey, I'd recommend that you start out with 125 pounds." Thanks for the answer, Jim. I don't have nearly that much, and about 20 pounds of what I do have is Mac Baren Golden Sweet, which I no longer like. This is not good. |

I have a scant 3 lbs 2 oz in my cellar, although I just started cellaring pipe tobacco in July. http://tobaccocellar.org/tinlist.php?cellar=1127 Interestingly enough, I just hit the jackpot on ebay so my cellar will be increasing nicely in about a week. I won 10 tins of GL Pease Robusto from Nov 2002, which should find a nice comfortable home into my cellar. How much is enough though? Well, let's see.....I am 28, I smoke 2-3 pipes per day, and I plan on living another 60 years.....so do the math! :-) |

How much should you have in your cellar? Well, I'm one of those paranoid people who think the anti-tobacco forces just might pull it off this time around, or that at least taxation will push the cost of a tin up to astronomical levels, so I figure I need enough to last until the day I day, plus a couple of tins for good measure. Pipes I can always pick up; tobacco I'm nervous about. |

Wow fellas, I've known people to store house food and stash ammunition but that much tobacco is staggering! Do you know the few people in Israel who have the audacity to call themselves tobacconists could not hold a candle to the amount of tobacco you have on hand for personal consumption. I need to get busy! |

I have 85 tins of Balkan Saseini and 23 tins of Penzance. 5 tins Rattrays assorted virginia/ English tobacco's and 2 pounds Balkan SAseini bulk. I think I may prefer to smoke the Bulk but it is the tins which hooked me originally on the Balkan Sobrannie. I recently started smokjing again (6 months ago) after a 10 year break. My only big regret is selling my pipe collection. I think I did well in rebuilding my new collection but that is for another post. I have not experimented with all the different blends but from whay I've smoked I like the Balkan Saseini. Penzance is nice for a change but I seem to be smoking the SAseini. The Penzance is nice but I find it harder to get a properly burning bowl with Penzance. With the Balkan Saseini tin or bulk I find it is an easy load and perfect smoke almost every time.I intend to purchase some more Saseini tins as it is harder and harder to find the stuff. I must get mine from Montreal and I am in Vancouver. |

I'm still new to smoking, so I only have: 1 1.5oz pack of Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey 1 small pack of Half And Half, Carter Hall, and Prince Albert. Everything except the Borkum Riff is pretty much empty, maybe 3 or so bowls worth left... |
