Surprisingly, Cooper from Low Country (smokingpipes.com) is similar. Not identical, but there are some common flavors. Ostensibly a "medium English" I find cooper very smooth and heavy on the latakia (for the style). The only other tobacco I know of that comes close is Commonwealth from Gawith, but it has no oriental component at all. But it is delicious, and very heavy on the latakia. |

It's been a while since I've had Old Ironsides but I recall it as being a Latakia bomb. You might want to try some Pirate Kake (bulk) or DaVinci (tinned) from C&D. |

I was a big Old Ironsides fan as well. I still have a can stashed away in hopes that it won't age too poorly. However, while on travel to San Diego I dropped by Racine & Laramie in Old Town. I found their "Golden Bull" to be pretty close to OIS as I recall. I bought a half pound and went through it pretty quickly. They have a website at: http://www.racineandlaramie.com/ |
