Any suggestions for a mild tobacco that doesn't burn my tongue? Either an aromatic or non. I have only smoked aromatics so far, so I'd like to hear suggestions for mild non-aromatics. Thanks. |

My favorite mild Latakia blend is McCelland's Frog Morton On The Town. |

Carter Hall Prince Albert Those are the top two burleys that don't bite. CH has more 'flavor' than PA and is closer to an aromatic. PA is more 'straight burley' IMO. Go get some! |

Larry: Give Walnut a shot! You can Google "Walnut Pipe Tobacco" and find out where to purchase. Tom Morbitzer |

my two favorite burley blends are Butternut Burley, a bulk blend from pipesandcigars.com, and University bulk:Student also from pipesandcigars.com. Butternut burley won't bite. its truly near impossible to get any bite from that blend. |

In an OTC tobacco, I don't think you can go wrong with Carter Hall. You might also want to try a couple of my favorite C&D tobaccos, Epiphany and Plantation Evening. L.J. Peretti makes some good ones, too, like Cuban Mixture and Park Square. |

Uhle's are great. I recommend Blend 300 or Perfection Plug Burley, both very similar to each other, mild, and probably too good for my good. |

I battle tongue bite, too. My favorites are Samuel Gawith's Medium Virginia Flake, Samuel Gawith’s Full Virginia Flake, and Lane Ltd 1Q. If you are ever in Alexandria, VA, John Crouch on King Street has a blend called Market Square that is biteless (and tastes very nice). Overall, the MVF has less bite than any tobacco I’ve tried. The flakes can be difficult to keep lit, especially the FVF. However, I cheat and put a pinch of 1Q or Market Square on top of the flake to get the fire started. It works for me. |

Mac Baren Navy Flake is so far the most mild tobacco i have smoked, some sweetness on the background. I use it to tone down extremely strong tobacco. |

The best advice I can give to pipe smokers who have difficulty keeping flakes lit is to rethink their packing technique. Chances are great that it's just packed too darn tight. Always remember... The second that top char starts the tobacco strands that are pressed will expand some, and tighten up in the bowl. I always pack my flakes a little on the loose side for this reason- it gives the tobacco room to expand and fill out the bowl without becoming overly tight or spilling out over the top of the bowl. Another question to ask yourself is, do I just have too humid a flake on my hands here? Let's face it, some climates are just more humid than others, and no doubt in some small ways this can I'm sure affect our pipe and cigar tobacco's if not carefully kept. I've never experienced this, but I sure read allot of people who think their blend is too "wet" to keep lit. I do sometimes dry out a flake for an hour or two every now and again... With younger blends of dark stoved usually... Darkstar without at least 4 or 5 years on it can be wicked sharp and I find that letting it get some air before I pack it helps with this for some reason... Anyways, hope this helps out |

From my experience I have to avoid "aromatics" and other propylene glycol containing tobaccos to avoid bite. In general I find I have to avoid tobacco that does not dry out readily. What do you mean by mild? Sam Gawith Best Brown Flake seems milder than the Medium Virginia Flake in nicotine effect and flavor. |

I have to agree with Bob Wallner's of Butternut Burley. It was the first non-biting tobacco I ever smoked. I also find that McCellands 600 black cavendish to be very easy on my tongue. The surprise for me was the sweet mellow no bite Oriental McClellands 2045 this has a very unique spicey smokey flavor. I am a woman pipe smoker and I have found this forum very informative thanks guys! |

I have been smoking a mild Virginia called Sunset from Tinderbox. I believe that it's the mildest tobacco I have ever smoked. I like to inhale the odd puff! |

Astleys No. 55 Elizabethan is a mild yet flavorful straight Virginia that is really, really good. It's cut finely, so it's easy to load and keep lit. If you're looking for a blend that just tastes like tobacco without any "smokiness" (Latakia), tanginess (Orientals), peppery-ness (Perique) or anything else, Astleys No. 55 is a good bet for you. Not a nicotine bomb, either, at least to me - but I think I'm becoming more and more impervious to nic. |
