Hey guys, I'm new to this site and I have a question about keeping bulk tobacco in the baggies they came in. I have about 2-3oz of McClelland 5100 that's been in a baggie for about 6 months. Do Virginia blends like this lose flavor from being in a baggie this long? I plan on moving it into a mason jar, but I'm not sure if I should salvage what I have, or just start fresh. Thanks!

In my experience tobacco left in baggies over time will dry out. I always transfer to mason jars.

Tobacco can be revitalized if it's dried out. One method is to moisten a paper towel with distilled water, cover the mouth of the jar with the towel and replace the lid. It's an easy way to control the amount of moisture.

Given the higher cost of tobacco (mostly taxes, at least in NY) why toss perfectly smokable tobacco away?

Well, I figured the only way to answer this question, was to smoke some for myself and see. So I did and it was just fine. I now have about 6 ounces in a jar that I can get at, and another 6 ounces in another jar that I plan to age for a year. We'll see how it turns out.

I use Ball you can save some money buying these.
The ones you have are fine but you can get a case of these for the price of 1 or 2 of Crate and Barrel.
They have them at most supermarkets.tobac

Do you heat them to seal them better or just tighten the lid good?

Heat them in the sun and pack with tobac. When I put them in the cool cellar the top sucks down within about an hour then you no your good. So yes I warm them.
