hi, my name is dan and i'm an early morning pipeaholic. i'd like to know if presbyterian mixture has a similar kind of mild, earthy, dirty taste as early morning pipe did. i don't know why, i just love that taste. i'm not looking for a really smokey taste like SG's 'Commonwealth' or C&D's 'Star Of The East', and I'm definitely not looking for a sweet and sour sauce Izmir-Virginia combo as seen in GLP's 'Embarcadero', and I think it's a sin to combine latakia and perique. I guess I'm too specific. But I'm thinking about buying a tin online since the Tinder Box in Atlanta closed, but I don't want to waste $10 and make a big mistake. If anyone else has any suggestions, for darker Virginias or another English blend, something suited for the fall, I'd love to hear it. |

Dan, for me I felt Presbyterian Mixture was weak in flavor and strength compared to EMP. I miss the Dunhill line. I disliked the high moisture content in which PM would arrive, but then again, I like my pipe tobacco drier than most folks. Dunhill can deliver the nicotine when summoned. I smoke because I like the effect of nicotine in my bloodstream, so why on God’s earth would I smoke insipid tobacco. Blasé would be my description of PM replacing EMP. PM is certainly excellent tobacco, so I don’t think you’ll be pissing away ten bucks, yet it isn’t EMP. Give it a try after an adequate drying. I’ve been so disenchanted in finding marginal substitutes for the Dunhill line. I could find myself setting down the pipe altogether and returning to rubbing snuff, I’m so disgusted. |
