Just what is it anyway?

Ive been over smoking my pipes and i have a faint egg/sulphor smell in them. My mis made bent has been collecting alot of liquid as i smoke it. The liquod reeks of sulfor, and right now is making me sick and very naseaus. Is this a normal condition for an over smoked pipe?

Absolutely. Use a pipe cleaner after every smoking day, and then let the pipe rest several days. It needs to dry out. You can use some pipe sweetner to the pipe mentioned or you may need to more aggresively clean that pipe. Do a search for pipe cleaning methods. These boards are full of suggstions.

Well i smoked my other pipe today, i havent smoked it in 3 days, and i had a decent smoke of PA for a half bowl when it started sizzling and giving out the sulfor smell and taste.

Cleaned the bent out with running water and pipe cleaners. Then a libberall scrub with rum. SMells like it should now.

Tom it sounds like you are a wet smoker, you might benefit from slowing down your puffing rhythm.

Never came across a roten egg smell before.
Two questions for you:
1. Did you buy the pipe new or used. If used have you reconditioned it and if new do you clean it and if so with what?
2. What blend/s do you smoke?

Definately sounds like you need to let the pipe dry out a bit with a cleaner , the one major thing to avoid is injesting any of the juice , talk about getting sick (don't ask ) just don't do it.
Ever wonder why all the drive up ATM's have braile on the drivers side !!!HUMMMMM !!!

My pipes were bought this year brand new in the factory package from doctor grabow. I smoke Prince Albert and Borkum Riff Cherry Liquer.

Teh riff went off first, i mean it was bad.. and i did swallow a bit. i was sick for a day and i was barely able to keep from throwing up.

My PA pipe went bad too. SO i cleaned them out last night with good alcohol and took them down to discoloured wood. Smoked them both with filters. the Bent with borkum tasted funny but pretty good. The prince albert had a hint of eggyness. But it was a good smoke considerin the brandy didnt evaporate in the stem.

Both bowls have that faint nutty/eggy smell.

I smoked Dr. Grabows and Borkum Riff for many years and never had this problem- even when smoking the pipes extremely hot on a regular basis.

My advice is to stop dipping your pipes in the oil can;-)

Well Tom,
That's really wierd.
I've smoked Grabow's with filters and as long as I had the filter in, never had a moisture problem. At the time, I rotated through 4 Grabow's never using one more than every other day. But still, never got the eggy smell???
How often do you use any one pipe in a week and do you smoke it untill it's to hot to hold in your hand?

I had the same problem, and while searching the boards, I came across a suggestion to another problem... But then I decided to try it anywho. Ends up, it worked... And it is, in fact, taking slower, lighter puffs, and pausing at least 5 seconds, if not more, between puffs. I haven't had much of the smell/taste anymore, BUT on occasion it resurfaces... In which case, i let it cool a bit and resume smoking, which usually works.
