I was reading a post about a cobb pipe with a bamboo shank, the pipe really looked nice. Wayne S. Benge stated that he just bought some bamboo and was going to try it with some cobb pipes he had to see how they smoked. I was just wondering where Wayne bought his bamboo or if anyone else might know where I could find some. Thanks Bill |

Wayne was the bamboo small enough to use as pipe shanks ? I bought some bamboo on line, it was supposed to be used as purse handles and was too large in diameter to be used as pipe shanks. Thanks Bill |

The bamboo was cheap, and it appears that I will only want to use the small ends for mine. I picked through the lot for the size I wanted. I have picked some swamp grass also, but I think the stems are too fragile. |

The "correct" type of bamboo to use for pipe shanks is very difficult to get ahold of. I had to buy mine direct from China. If you want to buy small quanitities, the only way I know to do it is from pipe maker Todd Johnson. (www.stoabriars.com) He doesn't advertise it on his site, but you can email him. Be warned: it is expensive. It will cost you about $2/inch for the best bamboo. Tyler |

Tyler, it's nice to see that you are still interested in smoking pipes, I know that you have stopped making them for commercial sales. Do you still make a few for yourself ? Bill |
