What do people think of Big Ben? I'm thinking of getting the Big Ben Crosley Commodore 360 for heavy aromatics as it has a big 9mm filter to mop up the gunk. I prefer a bent pipe for aros - you can smell the smoke better. http://www.smoke.co.uk/acatalog/Big_Ben_Crosley_Commodore_9mm_Filter_Pipe.html |

It is an old Dutch brand name, pipes are made by the Royal Dutch pipe Factories Gubbels Bros in Roermond. In the past they were "The" Dutch pipe, made a range of models and qualities from usable to very good. The craftmanship was very good, even for their cheapest models, which, when I recall right, were sold in the Cadet series. When it comes to finish etc., you will get a good pipe for the money, wether it will be a good smoker or not, depends on your taste, combination of pipe and tobacco. I for myself have the experience, that some manufactories make pipes that taste better for my way of smoking than others, I always get a good pipe from Nording, Winslow, Stanwell and Brigham, while an expensive brand like Upshall never performed for me the way I liked. |

I now have the Commodore, and also a Royal Silver with a P lip mouthpiece. The latter smokes great, and both pipes seem very accurately made, clearly machine made but very good quality, and I'm pleased with them. |
