I just bought a Ismail Bagdan meerschaum pipe from Istanbul and seeing all the beautiful gold and silver items and gems around the town, I started thinking of modifying this pipe somehow by other artisans with different areas of expertise. I bet there are master crafters and people with knowledge about the basic qualities of meerschaum on this forum, so before I contact my local jewelers and gold shops when I return home, I'd like to know is meershaum easy to modify? I know it's a soft stone but as I'm far from a handy crafter, I have no idea how this would work out. Also, as I live in a small town in a country (Finland9 that really doesn't have much of heritage in the areas of gold or gemstone artisans, I'd like to post this question world-wide first. Would it for example, be possible to embed gemstones or gold/silver plating on/in meerschaum? I truly don't want to spoil the pipe, instead I want to take the beautiful meerschaum art of Mr. Baglan a little step further by adding gemstone and gold arts from expert artisans in those areas to an already magnificient work of art. |
