Greetings all. I just started smoking a pipe 2 days ago without a filter. Is this wrong to do? What are the pros and cons of it. Also, if you recommend a filter, how often should one replace it. Much Thanks!

If you don't use a filter you'll likely want to use a screen. It depends on if you push saliva down the stem or not.

If you're a "pusher" like me, you'll clog filters and require a screen in the bowl instead to prevent dottle.

Hope you're not a pusher!

Lately, I tend to leave the bit draining to a napkin, or my work pants, to get rid of moisture.

I never had any good luck with any filters. They trap moisture, and I had no desire to buy that many of them.

Wayne, in my experience screens reduce the moisture by about 60%. That sounds like a lot but 40% is still too much for me and I am seeking something to reduce it more.

First see my comments on your other posting. Second, Wayne noted that filters "trap moisture", and that is exactly correct, and please note where they trap it, right before it would enter your mouth.
And without the filter in the pipe the vapor it traps will condense because of the expansion from the open space.
The better pipes with wooden filter systems, Brigham, Savinelli, etc. those wooden filters can be rinsed, dried and reused. I have seen a spacer advertised at one point to use in place of a filter, which is the size and shape of the filter, and so avoid this problem, but i do not remember where. Maybe someone else knows if they are still made and who has them.
