I'm a beginner and have finally acquired enough tobacco and plenty of pipes to hopefully keep me happy for a while (thanks, Larry!). I may buy some more Virginia of some kind if I like it. I have 2 or 3 pipes that I've been smoking English blends in. I got Altadis' Heavy English and African Queen (which may not be a true English?) from the nearest B&M, but have recently gotten some Bald Headed Teacher and Altadis Fox & Hound, which contain burley and perique in addition to the usual Virginia and latakia. Should these be used in the same pipes as other English Blends? Should burley and Virginia be separated? |

I seperate based on the amount of latakia. "Heavy English" will certainly color a pipe. Mixtures which contain all kinds of tobacco I generally smoke in one pipe, while purer virginias I will smoke in another. So if you are smoking latakia laden English Blends and Balkans, you should probably have at least one pipe for lighter mixtures and one pipe for virginias. |

So will the perique color a pipe? Would BHT and F&H be ok to smoke in a pipe with ligther latakia blends? Thanks for your reply! |

Perique is used quite sparingly in most blends, so it is unlikely to leave a serious residue. I would smoke BHT and FH and that kind of thing in the same pipe as lighter latakia blends, yes. There may be some ghost flavors, but hey, that's kind of fun too. |
