Conclave of Richmond Pipe Smokers pipe & tobacco show is this weekend. I'll be there and it is my 1st pipe show. Can anyone give me some info on what to expect? I think I understand about the tobacco samples, I guess you can fill your pipe and smoke right there at the table?? Can I epect to see good prices on pipes and tobacco? Is there any etiquette that should be observed when getting samples? Please fill me in on what you know.

Thanks
Geoffrey

well since no one filled me in on what to expect..I'll answer my on post for anyone else who might be thinking of going to a pipe show.

The $5 admission was money well spent and if you take your wife you can double up on the goodies that you get with your admission. In our bags we got 2 1.5 oz tins of tobacco, pipe cleaners, a tamper, matches and more. Upon entering the large conference I was blown away at how many pipes were to be had. There were so many that it really made it made it hard to pick only one pipe out. I did buy a Nothern Briar bulldog. I met the carver and his wife. They came over from England for the show. I'll post a picture of the pipe once I get home to the desktop computer.
The tobacco selection was wonderful and most of it was available to sample. You were free to fill your bowl and light up or some of the vendors would give you a tiny bag with the tobacco in it. There was a guy from Sutliff giving tins and pouches away of their blends. I was encouraged to take 2 tins and a sampler package of 4 different pouches. Cornell & Diehl had a huge booth with all their blends, the GL Pease blends and Two Friends blends. They were getting $8 for the 2oz tins. I picked up a tin of the new GL Pease Chelsea Morning and a tin of Autumn Evening. All and all it was a great show and I'm going to be at the next one for sure!
